This is a furniture button tufter. Thread twine into the round hole of the clasp, hook the square hole onto the needle, push the needle in, then withdraw it. Directions are included.

Thread the button and load the end of the needle with a clasp; as the needle reaches the bottom of your work, the clasp is ejected. This way there is no need to remove the outside back of the piece you are working with.
